The great American songbook was largely composed by the children of European Jewish immigrants for whom European classical music was a major part of their culture. George Gershwin was unique among them because he was equally influenced by African-American jazz and blues of the 1920s.
As a result, his songs are well-suited to jazz interpretation and make up a large portion of the jazz canon. This collection gathers seven of the best such interpretations by eight of Blue Note’s most important artists.
Track Listing :
'S Wonderful - Jimmy Smith; Someone to Watch Over Me - Stanley Turrentine; A Foggy Day - Lou Donaldson; But Not For Me - Kenny Burrell; The Man I Love - Ike Quebec; I've Got A Crush On You - Thad Jones; It Ain't Necessarily So - Grant Green.
